Customs

If you are shipping by air express (DHL, FedEx, UPS etc.) and the value is $200 or less, the courier will clear the shipment through customs without requiring any further documentation.

Customs Duty Fees / Customs Brokers / EIN#

ALL IMPORTERS – U.S. BASED OR FOREIGN

If your supplier will be shipping via air express courier and your shipment is valued less than $2500, we recommend that you allow them to ship it as a door to door shipment so the express courier can take care of the customs clearance.

Although an importer is allowed to use a customs broker in such situations, the express couriers often ignore the instructions and will process the shipment as a batch clearance. Due to special regulations offered to air express couriers, they are allowed to clear shipments under their name without a Power of Attorney from you.

It would be best to ship DDU or DAP as most suppliers will not sit under DDP terms as they do not wish to be responsible for payment of duties. Even if your shipment is valued at more than $1500, if it’s low-risk, the air express courier will most likely clear and deliver it.

By definition, informal entries do not usually require a customs broker when the importer is going to clear the shipment himself. If it is not practical for the importer to physically get to the port of import, a customs broker might be required.

Regular* air and sea cargo shipments—regardless of value—require the services of a customs broker. The customs broker will require a signed Power of Attorney from the importer of record in order to conduct customs business on your behalf. Your company’s Employer Identification Number (EIN# or Federal Tax ID#) will serve as your importer number.

If You Are a Foreign Importer

If you are allowing the air express courier to clear your shipment and the destination is GadgetDealz Wholesale Inc. in Houston, TX you do not need an EIN# or an importer number.

If you are shipping by regular air cargo or sea cargo, U.S. Customs will assign an 11-digit number to you once you provide the customs broker with your Power of Attorney. This is your importer number and will be used in lieu of an EIN#. However, U.S. Customs will require a U.S. based ultimate consignee and their EIN#.

We cannot emphasize this enough. You should hire a customs broker and have your Importer Number assigned before you arrange for your shipment.

An Ultimate Consignee is defined by customs as “…the party in the United States to whom the overseas shipper sold the imported merchandise. If at the time of entry or release, the imported merchandise has not been sold, then the ultimate consignee at the time of entry or release is defined as the party in the United States to whom the overseas shipper consigned the imported merchandise. If the merchandise has not been sold or consigned to a U.S. party at the time of entry or release, then the ultimate consignee at the time of entry or release is defined as the proprietor of the U.S. premises to which the merchandise is to be delivered.

GadgetDealz Wholesale Inc. can act as the ultimate consignee for your shipment but we will not act as the importer of record. You are the importer of record. Our EIN# is on file with Bruce Chen International. If you need to use GadgetDealz Wholesale Inc. as the ultimate consignee for regular air cargo or sea cargo shipments, please contact Bruce Chen International to clear your shipment.

Document Preparation

Air Shipments and Air Express Courier Shipments

Please arrange with your shipper to list your company as the receiver/consignee on the Air Waybill with GadgetDealz Wholesale Inc. as the In Care of party with our address.

For Example:

ABC Wholesalers Inc.

C/O GadgetDealz Wholesale Inc.

1729 Brittmoore Rd #B3

Houston, TX 77043

The destination airport will be Houston International Airport (IAH).

Please note that if your cargo is being shipped with an air express courier, it is very likely that their in-house customs brokerage department will clear the shipment and deliver it to us without notifying your appointed customs broker. This is almost always the case with DHL and UPS. If this happens, they will bill GadgetDealz Wholesale Inc. for the duties and taxes. We will then bill you for them with an additional service fee of $35 plus PayPal fees.

If your supplier ships via FedEx before you have had contact with Bruce Chen International, just allow them to clear and deliver it. If your supplier is planning to use FedEx and the shipment has not yet left, please contact Bruce Chen International first to have them clear the shipment.

Sea Shipments

Please arrange with your shipper to list your company as the consignee on the Ocean Bill of Lading with GDW Inc. as the In Care of party with our address.

For Example:

Bruce Chen International can also help you with shipping your products from the supplier to GadgetDealz Wholesale Inc. if the terms of sale are FOB, Ex-Works, or FCA.
