In Order To Succeed At eCommerce You Must Do This

Again and again I see posts on FB about how people are having issues finding products to sell online. But at the same time I see posts of people who have figured it out and are launching new products fairly regularly. Then there are the few who are launching hundreds of products a year and smashing it.

  • Which ones do you want to learn from?
  • Who is your mentor?
  • What stage of business are you in?
  • What are the differences that cause some to fail, some to do well, and others to hit it out of the park?

On my 2 year journey to find a mentor who could help me get from the plateau of 2 million a year to 5 million and beyond I learned several different ways people are taught to source and launch products and I noticed those I feel are the major differences between the people who are just doing o.k. and those that are seriously making huge money.

Now I am not saying adding products to your store are the only differences, there are others, but the business basics are the same and once you launch one successful product you can launch 100 or 1000. Some people take zero action, or mistake the action they take reading this blog post as action on their company. They get sold a bill of goods from their expert internet marketer and reality could not be farther from the truth. Action is making a difference in your business every day. Ask yourself this simple question. How are you bringing value to your own company right now?

There are people who are afraid to fail, when in reality the most successful among us have been the ones who failed the most. Bell, Edison, Westinghouse, The Wright Brothers, Madam Curie, and George Washington Carver are a few of the greatest names of the last century whose failures changed the world. The words fail often, and fail faster, are mantras of the true winners today.

But in regards to the issue of product research and product launches is different. Part creative, and part analytical, you need to know your strengths and weaknesses and focus on your strengths and hire your weaknesses. So if you’re creative, then create the logo, the web page, the content, and photographs, but hire or partner, with someone to deal with the business side. If your analytical then maybe you should hire out the creative and focus on the processes, automation, and procedures, hiring practices, and bookkeeping. In other words stop doing the grunt work and start doing what brings immediate value to your company.

Do not get bogged down chasing all the shiny things you think are going to solve your real issue. YOU are your roadblock, YOU are the thing holding yourself back. Examples from FB are littered with people who think to get their business moving they need some application that will tell them the keywords to use, or help them scour Amazon to find ME TOO products they can copy and launch with success. When in reality these tools do not fix the issue as you do not have an issue until you have a business. And these tools are meant to solve issues like time, when they become an issue. When if you do not know what you’re doing or are working outside of your true expertise, you get in trouble fast.

Many of you know I am a pilot and the first thing you need to learn is how to manually fly your plane, then you learn how to use tools like an autopilot, and then you graduate into glass cockpits and lots of automation. But if you do not know how to fly the plane in the first place, when there is an issue you will not know how to deal with it and well at 10,000 ft you’re in a world of trouble. Just look at the news to see the headlines of pilots who forgot to fly the plane and allowed automation to fly it for them at the cost of their lives and their passengers.

I did not use any tools to launch my e-commerce stores, we launched 38 products in 1 week by hand, had no keyword tools, had no courses, no tools to tell us if the product ranked, no launches. Yet we went from 0 to 850k in 10 months? How?

I know how, and yet even I have been prone to chasing the shiny things for a while as the online experts with their minutes of experience, copying what the other inexperienced experts told them was true, sold the shiny objects for a back-end payment. Then I woke up and also realized my 3 decades of business experience, my true knowledge of my strengths, weaknesses, and willingness to find people smarter than I and hire them was real expertise. And I got back to the basics, and my business doubled almost overnight.

Then I met some my mentors, some guys who were way past where I was on Amazon, not the snake oil salespeople online who only wanted me to pay a membership fee so they could show me something they truly knew little to nothing about and I realized that these so called experts were in it for themselves, not to truly help me, they wanted me to pay for their cars, and houses, with my hard work, and in return they would offer me what they deemed as the next best thing to grow my business, when in reality I did not even need it. Yeah I figured out how much I did not like them taking advantage of you and me. So I decided to give it away FREE.

Why FREE?

In the 60’s many of our parents and grandparents fought against the education machine, saying that the world’s knowledge was locked up in the colleges and you had to pay to access it. Because when my father went to college and worked on the internet it was to allow people to share information FREE, and when in the 80’s and 90’s I helped build and opened up the internet to the masses it was to share and give away knowledge for FREE.

So I decided that I would be the un-guru, marketing against the fakes, give away my knowledge free, I would help as many people as I could via FB, my blog, and video as it was effective in disseminating information. And I would not charge a dime for membership to my website or FB group. As my business grows I give away the latest techniques we use for free. And a couple of times a year we host some un-event, bringing people together in a mastermind settings to work together to create massive growth.

This year our first event is in China! I wanted to take a group to China to show them how I and my mentor friends use a sourcing model that most real gurus do not teach. I find it more cost-effective, efficient, and it gets back to the basics of how I built an ecommerce business larger than most experts without the tools, apps, and snake oil.
